Volunteer in Gulf State Park
Alabama State Parks are successful in part because of their loyal, hard-working volunteer base. The valuable service from our volunteers has enhanced the quality of our Park for many years. If you have a desire to donate your time and effort in Gulf State Park, we have a variety of opportunities for you!
Camp Hosts
Volunteering as a camp host is a long term partnership between yourself and the Park. Camp hosts stay for several months (Min: 1 month Max: 6 months) and will volunteer for at least 32 hours each week and help housekeeping staff with cleaning and maintaining of the bath houses and restrooms located throughout the park. During their stay, camp hosts receive a complimentary campsite in our Campground. These volunteers contribute to a variety of Park operations. A camp host may be assigned to tasks that utilize a specific set of skills they have, such as carpentry, electrical, hospitality, arts, etc.
Camp host duties could include, but are not limited to:
- Campground gate attendant
- Camp store attendant
- Maintenance crew member
- Event preparation
- Repairs and enhancements
Visiting Groups
Gulf State Park has welcomed groups in to volunteer for a day or weekend basis. These groups vary from scout troops, youth groups, college organizations, and more. We try to accommodate for specific goals or projects that a group may be focused on completing. If there are no preferred volunteer duties, Park staff will arrange for a project to be done.
Volunteer group duties could include, but are not limited to:
- Building bat/bird houses
- Cleaning litter from the Park
- Constructing an enhancement piece
Individual Volunteer Opportunities
Whether you are a local, or spending your vacation with us, you are welcome to volunteer with the Park as an individual! We welcome anyone who has free time and would like to give back to the Park, from young adults who may need to aquire volunteer hours to folks who have free time here or there. We will set you up with a department that best represents your interests and skills. There is not required number of hours or days that you must volunteer, it can based on your schedule!
