Volunteering

While park staff perform many of the daily tasks and duties required to operate each of the state's 21 parks, volunteers are vital to its continued success. Thus, the Volunteers In Parks (VIP) program was established to enable individuals or groups to make a positive impact at their favorite park. We also appreciate organized volunteer activities within our parks, such as cleanups of trash and debris. If you or your organization is interested in this, please contact your local park directly.

How to apply

Examples of VIP opportunities

Each park has its own volunteer needs and requirements. For more specific information, please visit the website of your favorite park and look for the Volunteering category.

Campground Hosts are provided a complimentary campsite for their use during their service period. They are asked to assist the park staff on a daily basis. Some of the duties they will be asked to perform are picking up trash, helping to keep bathrooms clean, providing information to the campers, and other tasks that are helpful to park staff.

Support Groups organize and work in the park of their choice simply because they love the parks. Our goal is to establish a support group for each park, which will coordinate special projects that enhance the beauty of our parks and provide immediate gratification to the volunteers involved. Special projects include, but are not limited to:

  • Landscaping
  • Trail development for biking, hiking, and horseback riding.
  • Golf course maintenance
