Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge Fieldtrip 2021
Calling all Nature Nerds!
Join OMSP Park Naturalist Lauren Muncher and Alabama State Park's Naturalist Emeritus Mike Ezell for a fieldtrip to the Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge in Decatur, Alabama! We will see thousands of Sandhill Cranes, various waterfowl, and have a chance to see the endangered Whooping Cranes!
Meet at the Oak Mountain State Park Office Parking Lot for head count, information on the day, refuge rules, and directions.
We will then caravan to the refuge.
Please allow a 1 hour and 40 minute drive to the refuge. You will be in your own vehicle.
Once we arrive at the refuge we will be outside only. Wear appropriate clothing for the weather. Visitor Center is currently closed due, but they have opened new areas for viewing the wildlife!
