Park Naturalist Mandy Pearson will be stationed outside the Mountain Store to answer any questions you might have about animals, plant, history, or point you to a great hiking trail. Join the Park Naturalist to watch and identify birds. She will teach you about birding, and how hone in you bird identifying skills. Bring your own set of binoculars and learn about our feathered friends. You are also welcome to chat and ask the naturalist any question about the animals, plants, or park that you have been curious about. Take A Hike: Accessible and Interpretive Discovery Hike
Join Cheaha’s Naturalist, Mandy Pearson, on a hike across the highest mountain in Alabama. Learn about the Cheaha ecosystem, plants, animals, and history on this 0.6-mile hike. Arts in the Environment: Hiking Stick Workshop
Whether you are hiking up a mountain or taking a stroll around the block, a hiking stick can be a very useful tool. Participants will make and take their own hiking sticks. Supplies will be provided. Eco Explorers: Leave No Trace Hike to the Top of Alabama
Learn the Leave No Trace basics as you hike to the top of Alabama. This one-mile hike will begin at the Vista Cliffside overlook and end at the Bunker Observation Tower, Alabama's highest point. The park naturalist will interpret the trail and discuss plants, animals, native Americans, the Civilian Conservation Corp, ecosystems, Leave No Trace, and much more. The program is free with gate admission and to overnight guests.
