Cheaha State Park Mountain Treasure Hunt
Cheaha State Park Mountain Treasure Hunt
In the 19th Century, many Appalachian communities played a game to celebrate spring called Treasure Hunt. Real eggs were used! (We are using plastic GOLDEN eggs.) Some eggs would have distinct markings, and if found, meant valuable prizes. This promise of reward excited the community as determined egg hunters, with dreams of rich rewards in their heads, scoured the mountains and meadows looking for their quarry. Cheaha State Park, following this Appalachian Tradition, is hosting a Mountain Treasure hide-and-seek style egg hunt played within in Cheaha State Park boundaries for April 14-17, 2022. Each day, volunteers (called Park Buddies) will hide golden eggs around the park for lucky guests to find and redeem for prizes.
*Limit is one egg per person per day.*
