- Story Time: Go Dog Go, What Pet Should I Get, and I’ll Teach My Dog Lots of Words

Dogs are more than just a pet, they are man’s best friend! Enjoy listening to classic doggy-based tales with Park Naturalist Mandy Pearson as she reads Go Dog Go, What Pet Should I Get, and I’ll Teach My Dog Lots of Words by Dr. Seuss and P.D. Eastman. Then enjoy a special puppy craft that will help you match your four-legged friend!

-Meet Mako the Search and Rescue Super Pup

Dogs use their noses to find their way. They can track scents miles away, underground, underwater, and even days old. Search and rescue dogs have powerful noses and great training to locate lost hikers. Meet a real superhero search and rescue pup Mako and his teammate/owner Cathy Mickelsen!

 

- Story Time: My Life as a Black and Tan Hound Dog with Renee Raney

Join Renee Raney, Central District Manager, Parks Education Coordinator, and one of Alabama’s best storytellers, as she tells her true stories about growing up on her granddad’s dairy farm as Midnight the Black and Tan Hound Dog. It will be a fun-filled hour of old-fashioned storytelling, knee-slapping humor, and precious memories.

 

- Best Dog Hikes Alabama with author Joe Cuhaj

Alabama is covered with breathtaking hiking trails and vistas. As you set out for your next hiking adventure, don’t leave your dog at the house, bring him along for an adventure too. Join Joe Cuhaj, author of the book Best Dog Hikes in Alabama, to learn more about the premier human and hound hiking destinations!

Over the centuries, music has filled the peaks and valleys of the Appalachian Mountains.  Friends, families, and even strangers would gather from far and wide to connect over the strumming of a guitar or a melodic tune.  Relive this time-honored tradition of music and fellowship with a live performance by Justin Farr.  Enjoy classic country and rock hits from the comfort of your own camp chair at the LNT Bigfoot Pavilion.

 

-Dog Talent/Costume Contest

Can your pup dance, skateboard, dunk a basketball, or do tricks? Maybe they are adorable in a cute or fun costume? Then why not enter them in Cheaha’s Bark in the Park Talent/Costume Contest? Your dog might just be named the “Most Talented Dog at Cheaha State Park"!

 

-Health Tips for Hiking with a Healthy Pup from Dr. Niki Wayner

Dogs are amazing hiking companions, but do you know what to do if your four-legged hiking buddy is injured on the trail? Join veterinarian Dr. Niki Wayner to learn some tips on what to include in your first aid kit for your canine hiking companion.

There are scent stations along the path for dogs to sniff and clues for the humans to guess the identity of each mystery animal’s scent.

-Leave Only Fairy Footprints

Location: Enchanted Garden

Build a fairy house out of natural materials. You might just catch a glimpse of a fairy darting into your new home!

- Photo Scavenger Hunt

Sharpen your hide and seek skills by finding all the hidden locations. Pick up a scavenger hunt sheet from the Mountain Store.

-Hike to the Highest Point in Alabama: Bigfoot Trail (1 mile)

Count how many hidden Bigfoots you see along the way.

-Self-guided Hikes

-Legacy Story Trails

Cheaha Legacy Story Trails offer guests a unique way to enjoy nature, cultural heritage, and environmental arts. Follow the interpretive panels on the Tim Haney Sensory Trail (LNT Bigfoot Trail), Shinrin-yoku Trail (Mountain Laurel Trail), and the Time Traveler Adventure Quest (begins at the Mountain Store). Stop by the Mountain Store to pick up a trail map.
