Joe Wheeler offers an 18-hole championship golf course that was designed by Earl Stone. The course has a setting of rolling hills that tie in with the river. Its length is a definite challenge to golfers but is a very fun course to play for the novice. Since the course is inside a game sanctuary, wildlife is abundant on the course. Deer can be seen throughout the course and bluebirds are abundant. Wildlife often wanders on the course.  Please honor their right of way.

The General Golf Course Pro Shop hours vary seasonally

• Come out enjoy this challenging and affordable public course.
• Tee times can be reserved five days in advance beginning at 9 a.m. daily.
• Tee times are accepted on the same day of play (walk-ons are welcomed) when available.
• Tee times are not required but are highly recommended. Walk-ons will be able to tee off at the Starters Discretion. 
• Joe Wheeler State Park Golf Course features a stocked pro shop with snacks, drinks, and a grill for lunch.
• The course offers Bermuda greens and tees, a driving range, chipping green, and practice green that is open year-round.
• Our pro shop is also a Wi-Fi Hot Spot.
• Children must be 6 years of age or older to golf at The Oaks.
• Any child under the age of 4 must have two caretakers over the age of 18 with them at all times while at The Oaks.

Tee-Time Reservations:

• Please check-in at the golf shop at least 10 minutes before your tee time. Failure to do so may result in forfeiting your tee time to our stand-by-list.
• Spectators, ride alongs, and non-golfers are permitted provided:
  • No additional golf carts are needed for the group
  • Golfers have priority on golf carts over non golfers (spectators may have to walk)
  •  Play pace is not impacted
  • A MAXIMUM of 4 players per group
• No Show/Cancellation/Online Reservation Policies
  • Alabama State Parks will monitor frequent no shows. Guests who no show more than two times will be restricted from online booking.  Tee times can be booked by calling in and providing a credit card on file.  Guest can be charged up to $10 per person for additional no shows.

Rates vary depending on season, time of day, and demand.

Course Rules:

• Please abide by our course rules and policies.
• No group shall start on the back side without permission from the Pro Shop.
• Please keep your cart on the path when around the tees and greens.
• Rain checks will only be given in the event of bad weather.
• There is a maximum of four players per group.
• Please let faster groups play through.

• Rainchecks:

  • Rainchecks will NOT be issued unless play is suspended by the golf staff.
  • Rainchecks are prorated and determined by the number of holes played.
  • Rainchecks are ONLY valid during the year they are issued.
• Golf Carts:
  • All golf carts must be returned within 30 minutes before dark. Check with staff for more details.
  • To drive a golf cart, you must be a minimum of 16 years of age and have a valid driver’s license.
  • Only two golf carts are allowed per party.
  • Golf cart fees ONLY apply to one round of golf. Additional cart fees apply for multiple rounds.
  • Rainchecks for golf carts will not be issued unless play is suspended.

• Other:

  • All children under the age of 12 should be supervised by an adult at the practice facility and the golf course.
  • Any child under the age of 4 must have two care takers over the age of 18 present while on the course.
  • Players participate at their own risk in inclement weather. Cancellations due to extreme weather and lightning are allowed within the 48-hour window.

• Golf Clubs & Rentals:

  • We encourage you to reserve rental clubs in advance to ensure availability.
  • All Players must have their own set of clubs for speed of play purposes.
