Girl Scouts Love State Parks Weekend 2020

Come and explore our State Parks to celebrate the national event, Girl Scouts Love the State Parks! Over 25,000 Girl Scouts around the USA will be participating with their troops and families. Nature and outdoor activities will be provided virtually, at a self-guided pace and 2 in-person options. There are 2 stations that will be offered 4 times(11:00 am, 12:00 pm, 1:00 pm, 2:00 pm), but you must register for your time slot. Due to Covid-19, we are reducing the participant group size to a max of 15 people per program time slot. To register for your program time slots contact the Park Naturalist at Mandy.Pearson@dcnr.alabama.gov Your troop or family will bring their own picnic style lunch to enjoy at the park.





Take A Hike: Leave No Trace Hike to the Top of Alabama

Learn the Leave No Trace basics as you hike to the top of Alabama. This one-mile hike will begin at the Vista Cliffside overlook and end at the Bunker Observation Tower, Alabama's highest point. Through a self-guided hike learn about plants, animals, ecosystems, Leave No Trace, and through a pondering role-playing hike.

Take a Hike: Salamander Stroll

Alabama is one of the best places for salamanders on the planet! They love cool, clean water. Cheaha’s water is spring-fed so there are many salamanders all over the park. Join Assistance Naturalist Eric Cline to learn more about salamanders up close and personal. Wear clothes and closed-toe shoes that are adventure-ready.

Eco Explorers: Nature Journaling

Nature journals have been used for many years! Explores crossing this land first documented plant, animals, mountains, and rushing rivers in nature journals. Many adventures have been preserved in these precious journals, but a nature journal is so much more. As you look closer to nature, the plant, the animals, a soft blowing wing a babbling brook, warm sunshine, and the glisten of the evening stars, you begin to see the world in a and special way. Slow down and soak in the spectacular treasures and beauty of the natural world all around us. We will develop descriptive techniques, poetry, sketching, and nature observations. Bring a notebook or journal and a pencil or pen and learn how about nature journaling.

We are committed to providing programs that are educational, fun, and safe. Family units will be spaced out from other family units. Registration is required for the in-person programs(Salamander Stroll and Nature Journaling). We will provide hand sanitizer stations.
