On September 30, 2015, we received devastating news concerning our current financial/budget circumstances within the Alabama State Park system relative to the legislature’s transfer of $3 Million from the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.

Within the last 5 years, the State Park system has experienced numerous financial blows associated with natural and un-natural disasters (i.e., BP oil spill, ice storms, tornados), and budget cuts associated with legislative transfers of previously earmarked maintenance and administrative funds.

All reserve funds have now been exhausted and the system is operating under a “hand to mouth” existence, with most efficiencies having been in place since the 2000 renovation era.  100% of the required $3M transfer of funds from the ADCNR will have to come from the State Parks system.
