Kinterbish Community Hunting Area Closed to Hunting

March 13, 2009

The Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Division of Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries announces the closing of Kinterbish Community Hunting Area (CHA) in Sumter County. The closing was effective March 1, 2009. The Department’s hunting lease expired February 28, 2009, and was not renewed by the landowner.

Turkey hunting during the 2009 spring gobbler season will be not be open on Kinterbish CHA due to the timing of the lease expiration. Notice of the season closure is posted at the former check station for Kinterbish CHA.

Barnett Lawley, Commissioner of the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, stated, “We appreciate the cooperation and assistance of the landowner in recent years. Their generosity allowed us to provide access to an exceptional public hunting property in west Alabama.”

For additional information about this closure, call the District III Division of Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries office at 205-339-5716.
