The Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources’ (ADCNR) State Parks Division has announced that a prescribed burn is scheduled for February 7, 2008 at Oak Mountain State Park, weather permitting. The burn will help facilitate the removal of fuel on 18-30 acres in a mixed pine/hardwood zone.In case of inclement weather, the burn will occur February 8.

The burning will also be a training exercise as part of the Wildland Fire School sponsored by the City of Pelham. Weather permitting, this prescribed burn exercise will enable personnel from Oak Mountain State Park, the Alabama Forestry Commission and the City of Pelham Fire Department to better access and learn wildland fire behavior.

The Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources promotes wise stewardship, management and enjoyment of Alabama’s natural resources through five divisions: Marine Police, Marine Resources, State Lands, State Parks, and Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries.
