Press Release

Licenses May Be Purchased By Phone or Mail

July 28, 2003

Don’t have time to go out and get that hunting or fishing license? Don’t like or want to stand in long lines? Or, is there simply no place nearby? In case you didn’t know, licenses may be purchased over the phone or by mail.

For several years, Bass Pro Shops® has provided a toll-free number that allows callers to get licenses instantly. Callers will be given a temporary authorization code that allows immediate use. To take advantage of this convenience, however, callers must have a major credit card. In addition to regular license fees, a $3.95 processing fee will be charged. To purchase a license by phone, call 1-888-848-6887.

Licenses may be purchased by mail from the Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Division, Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, 64 North Union Street, Suite 567, Montgomery, AL 36104. Mail requests must include completed application, proper payment and copy of driver’s license. Application packets may be obtained by calling 334-242-3465, emailing jstjohn@dcnr.state.al.us, or visiting the website at www.dcnr.state.al.us after August 1, 2003.

Plans are underway to provide online purchase as early as August. The fee for this service will vary based on the cost of the license.

A license is required for all residents and non-residents aged 16-64. Residents 65 years of age and over are exempt from buying licenses. Fishing licenses expire one year from date of purchase and hunting licenses expire each year on July 31.

For more information, contact the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources’ License office at 334-242-3829.
