Press Release

Prescribed Burn Scheduled Thursday for Oak Mountain State Park

February 06, 2007

A prescribed burn is scheduled for Thursday, February 8 at Oak Mountain State Park’s Golf Course Zone. The burn will help facilitate the removal of understory growth on several 2- to 3-acre islands and 7 to 8 acres of right-of-way.

The burning will also be a training exercise as part of the Wildland Fire School sponsored by the City of Pelham.  Weather permitting, this prescribed burn exercise will enable personnel from Oak Mountain State Park, the Alabama Forestry Commission and the City of Pelham Fire Department to better access and learn wildland fire behavior.

The Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources promotes wise stewardship, management and enjoyment of Alabama’s natural resources through five divisions: Marine Police, Marine Resources, State Parks, State Lands, and Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries.
