Largemouth Bass Featured on Auto Tag

August 24, 2005

Take A Kid Fishing Alabama Car TagA largemouth bass is featured on one of Alabama’s newest specialty auto tags. The “Take a Kid Fishing” tag can now be purchased at local probate offices for $50 above the regular renewal price. Personalization is available at no additional cost or can be transferred from existing personalized tags. Before production begins, 1,000 tags must be pre-sold.

"The largemouth bass is a fitting symbol for a specialty tag," said Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Division Director Corky Pugh. “Not only is the largemouth bass the state’s official freshwater fish, it’s also the most popular sportfish in the state.”

Proceeds from the sale of the tags go directly toward improving fish habitat, teaching kids how to fish and restoring certain aquatic species. Some of the programs that will benefit include the following:

  • Enhancing and restoring fish habitat in lakes and rivers. This will improve fishing in Alabama waters.
  • Providing opportunities for kids to fish. Since the inception of the Community Fishing Program in 1995, over 85,000 kids have been given the opportunity to experience fishing.
  • Restoring Alabama’s aquatic threatened and endangered species such as certain snails, mussels and fish.

If you love fishing in Alabama and would like to support efforts to improve the pastime for future generations, then purchase the new “Take a Kid Fishing” license plate.
