Controlled Burns at Gulf State Park Planned for May 25-26 and June 8-9

The Alabama State Parks Division of the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, in cooperation with the Alabama Forestry Commission, is planning prescribed burns on May 25-26 and June 8-9, 2005, if weather permits. The burns will take place adjacent to the campground and in an area northwest of the campground adjacent to the cities of Orange Beach and Gulf Shores.

The fuel load within the park has been reduced significantly by a series of burns this past winter. The Division feels that the further elimination of fuel rendered by Hurricane Ivan will create a safer environment in regard to wildfire within the park and outlying communities.

Every effort will be made to ensure safety and proper smoke management during this period. A reminder notification will be made during the week prior to the June 8-9 burn.
