An emergency rule has been filed by the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources to provide for the rules of conduct for a special state park hunting season. Rule 220-2.134-.124ER “Special State Park Hunting Regulation” was enacted to address an immediate danger to the public welfare regarding the overpopulation of white-tailed deer at Oak Mountain State Park.

Included in the rule are specifications for hunting with bow and arrow only; proper permitting of hunters; location of hunting areas; process of transporting deer through designated checking station for scientific data; hunter orange requirements; use of elevated stands; and limits on use of motor-driven vehicles.
The emergency rule became effective when signed January 6, 2004, by Conservation Commissioner M. Barnett Lawley.
