Youth Art Calendar Contest Winners on Exhibit at Mobile Arts Council

The Eastern Shore Art Center in conjunction with personnel from the Marine Resources Division of the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources hosted a reception for the Alabama Marine Resources Youth Art Calendar Contest winners at the Eastern Shore Art Center in Fairhope. There were 72 winners in the 2004 calendar contest entitled “Preserving and Enjoying Alabama’s Coastal Resources”.

Alabama Marine Resources Division received 375 entries from 4^th and 5^th graders in 19 different schools in Mobile and Baldwin counties. The winning entries were featured in the 2004 calendars which were distributed free throughout the southern part of Alabama.

The pictures were framed and matted with a donation from the Alabama-Mississippi Sea Grant Consortium. They were on exhibit at the Mobile Museum of Art for two months and then moved to the Eastern Shore Art Center for one month. They are now on exhibit at the Mobile Arts Council through the month of September. At the close of the exhibit they will be returned to the students.

Plans are currently under way for the 2005 calendar contest.
