Free Family Event Set for September 25 at Oak Mountain State Park

Oak Mountain State Park is the setting for Outdoor Alabama Expo 2004 on Saturday, September 25. If you’ve ever wanted to learn how to properly shoot a firearm, experience rock climbing, or catch your first fish, the Expo is the place to do all that and more at no cost.

Regardless of age or ability, you can learn how to do many outdoor activities during Expo, all with assistance from the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. Conservation personnel and hunter education volunteers will provide instruction on firearm safety before anyone is allowed to participate in the shooting sports. Youngsters who catch their first fish will take home a lifetime memory of it in the form of a photo.

Other activities offered will be wildlife viewing, archery, touch tanks and displays of native Alabama freshwater and saltwater species, equipment displays and primitive camping.

Beautiful Oak Mountain State Park contains nearly 10,000 acres of pine-studded ridges and lush green hardwood bottoms. It provides the perfect setting for what is sure to be a fun, family-oriented event. Located just 15 miles south of Birmingham, the Expo will be easily accessible from anywhere in the state.

To get to Oak Mountain State Park, take Exit 246 off of I-65 at Highway 119 in Pelham and follow the signs. Expo hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, September 25. Attendance and parking are free, and food vendors will be on site selling snacks and lunch.
