Conservation Advisory Board to Meet May 22 in Gulf Shores

Hunting seasons and bag limits for 2004-2005 will be set May 22 when the Conservation Advisory Board meets at Gulf State Park. The meeting will take place in the ballroom of the resort’s hotel. Registration for those wishing to address the board will be from 8:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. The meeting will begin promptly at 9 a.m.

The Conservation Advisory Board assists and advises on matters relating to the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. The Board is composed of 10 members appointed by the governor for alternating terms of six years, and three ex-officio members in the persons of the Governor, the Commissioner of Agriculture and Industries, and the Director of the Cooperative Extension System. The Commissioner of Conservation and Natural Resources serves as the ex-officio secretary of the Board.

Commissioner Barnett Lawley urges concerned citizens to attend the May 22 meeting at Gulf State Park when the board will discuss items pertaining to Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries, State Lands, State Parks, Marine Resources and Marine Police. During the public hearing portion of the meeting, the board will entertain questions and comments from the public. “This is a chance for the citizens of Alabama to make their views known to the board on a variety of issues,” he said.
