Florala Student Wins State Parks Calendar Contest
February 04, 2014
Morgan Stokes, a junior at Florala High School in Florala, Ala., is the winner of the Alabama State Parks Calendar Contest. Stokes’ photo of cypress trees at Florala State Park is featured on the cover of the 2014 calendar. In addition, two other photos she took at Florala are featured inside the calendar.
According to Alabama State Parks Promotions Manager Randy Jinks, the calendar is produced every year as a giveaway item. “We give the calendar away at several trade shows we do in January of each year. It’s something that everyone can use,” he said. “As part of our 75th anniversary in 2014, we decided to have a contest among high school agriscience students and to use their photos or drawings in the calendar.”
In addition to her photo on the cover of the calendar, Stokes receives special mention inside the calendar with a short bio and photo.
Other students whose photos were selected for the calendar include Ethan Bexley of Semmes, Ala.; Haley Bryson of Danville, Ala.; Anna Cotney of Wadley, Ala.; Levi Dial of Killen, Ala.; April Hornbuckle of Florence, Ala.; Noah McMinnis of Lacy Springs, Ala.; and Katherine White of Florala, Ala. Along with Stokes, each student will receive a three-day, two-night vacation package at the state park of their choice.
2014 is the 75th Anniversary of Alabama State parks and many promotional events will be taking place throughout the year at the 22 state parks. Visit www.alapark.com for more information.
The Alabama State Parks Division operates and maintains 22 state parks encompassing approximately 48,000 acres of land and water. These parks rely on visitor fees and the support of other partners like local communities to fund the majority of their operations.
