First Day Hikes: Hike to the Top of Alabama and to the Top of the World!

Due to the threat of severe weather, we have rescheduled this hike to 2:30 PM – 4:00 PM CST. It will end at the Vista Cliffside Restaurant Deck just in time to catch the first sunset of 2021. Join us for bright new beginnings in a new year!

Vista Cliffside Restaurant will be open New Year’s DAY 11 am-7 pm (closed New Year’s Eve). Serving to go style pizzas, burgers, chicken tenders, chili, salads and more.

Start your new year off enjoying the beauty of Cheaha State Park. On these First Day Hikes, we will be hiking on the Leave No Trace Bigfoot Challenge trail to Alabama's highest point at Bunker Tower (1 mile total) and on the Bald Rock Accessible Boardwalk which is a National Recreation Trail.

First Day Hikes will be offered in the park at a self-guided pace, through “boots on the ground” experiential staff guided trail hikes, or virtually on our Facebook page. Two guided hikes will be offered in person, but you must register your family for your time slot. Due to Covid-19, we are following strict Social Distancing and mask regulations (where appropriate).

We are committed to providing programs that are SAFE, educational, and fun. Social Distancing is mandatory. We ask that you mask, as needed if Social Distancing is impossible. Registration is required for guided hikes. For more information or to register for a hike, please email Mandy.Pearson@dcnr.alabama.gov
