Top Rope Rock Climbing-Cherokee Rock Village

Hosted by: DeSoto State Park & Goldstar Enterprises

Participants will climb and boulder beginner level climbs, learning about rock climbing equipment and general terminology.


Where: Meet DeSoto State Park’s Country Store at 9:00 am and leave by 9:15 am. Arrive at climb site 10:00 am. Climb until 3:00 pm get back to park by 4:00 pm.
Cost: $35 per person. Shuttle $5 per person

Location: Cherokee Rock Village-Sand Rock, Alabama

What to wear:
Comfortable clothing that is fitted. Dress for the season. Light layers that can be removed are best in temps of 40-50 degrees. Above 60 degrees, wear at least a base layer and exterior shell that can be remove as temps warm during the day. Long Hair must be put up.
Lightweight tennis shoes, climbing shoes or “toe shoes” work best. We can provide climbing shoes to rent $2 pair but are limited in size. We have kids sizes and up to size 7 in women’s.

What to bring:
Water bottle or Hydration Pack with plenty of water or Gatorade.
Any food that you eat during the day is up to you. There is a scheduled lunch break and you will have the option to eat at your leisure. Pack foods that will keep such as hard breads, cheeses, meats and fruit. Do not pack foods that can spoil. Do not bring coolers. Pack food and supplies in backpack or similar.

 

 

Rappelling Activity
Hosted by: DeSoto State Park & Goldstar Enterprises

 

Participants will learn the basics of rappelling with trained PCIA instructors and descend an 80 foot sandstone wall. Learn about basic gear, knot tying, rappelling hardware and its uses in a beautiful location.


Where: Pack a lunch & meet your guide at 9:30am at DeSoto State Park’s Restaurant & Lodge Parking Area. We will caravan or you can take a shuttle ($3 pp) to and from the rappel site.
Cost: $30 per person: Ages 10 - adult. Cost includes all gear.
