One World Backpacking Series:
Backpacking Basics & Eco-friendly Etiquettes
Hosted by DeSoto State Park and provided by One World Adventure Company
The first trip of our series will cover what you need and don’t need, how to pack your bag and what is a good weight goal to try and not to exceed. After we have reached our camping site for the night we’ll go over how to pick and set up your camp site. Some backpacking friendly etiquettes and for the new backpackers the business behind the tree. All in all it is a fun opportunity to learn some basic knowledge and have some fun outdoors. Adults and youth 14 and up. Youth under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
Dates: March 15th & 16th, 2014

One World Backpacking Series: Trail Navigation with a Map and Compass 
 Hosted by DeSoto State Park and provided by One World Adventure Company
Second trip in the series, we’ll have a brief land navigation crash course for trail hiking. Learn the ins and outs of the compass and basic map understanding and how to mark trails so you don’t get lost. We’ll hike out and do some hands on training while we are out there for the remainder of the time and will even touch on some night navigation if it the sky is clear. You will need to bring a good compass. Adults and youth 14 and up. Youth under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
Dates: April 26th & 27th, 2014

One World Backpacking Series: Fire  
 Hosted by DeSoto State Park and provided by One World Adventure Company
This trip we’ll be talking about fire:  the camp fire, before we head out we’ll talk about some fire safety and basic tinder types to look for on our hike. Once at the camp site the rest of the time will be spent making different types of safe fires and going over 3 different methods of starting a fire. Adults and youth 14 and up. Youth under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

One World Backpacking Series: Water 
 Hosted by DeSoto State Park and provided by One World Adventure Company
Another great weekend on the trail and this weekend is all about water. We’ll have a class before heading out on the trail talking about pathogens and ways to purify your water. Once we are out on the trail we’ll have fun and boil water in some very different ways. This makes a great survival class as well, water is a very important aspect of survival and any outdoor activity. Adults and youth 14 and up. Youth under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
Dates: June 21st & 22nd, 2014

Nothing says a good time on the trail like a good meal on the trail. We’ll be talking about food; we’ll have a small class before we hit the trail about idea as to how to make some good backpacking food that will impress. Then we’ll hit the trail and learn how to make some cool tri-pods and cooking stands.  Adults and youth 14 and up. Youth under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

One World Backpacking Series: Cooking on the fire

We are continuing our food class from last month and giving everyone a chance to try out some backpacking food that they made from home. We’ll also be making some bread while we are out on the trail. We’ll also make some cooking fires to cook some untraditional camping food different ways. Adults and youth 14 and up. Youth under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

One World Backpacking Series: Bush craft fun while Camping (Chairs)

For our last Backpacking club of 2014 well be doing some bush craft. We’ll learn how to make item that will make the time we spend in the woods more fun and relaxing. We’ll be making my very own version of a stool and a cool little tripod chair. Adults and youth 14 and up. Youth under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

After putting some trail time behind your tested gear, you may be wanting to change things up a little. Try another style of backpacking, and that's where this class comes in. I'll show you some small changes you can make to add a little change in your backpacking routine and get a little taste of a different style in your next camping trip. Adults and youth 14 and up. Tent & Hammock camping.....even in the Winter!
Winter would be the perfect time to talk about tents and hammocks. We will talk about some different kinds of tents for winter camping, and some simple ways adding some warmth to a cold tent. Most of the class time will be spent talking about hammock camping, and how to stay warm. Adults and youth 14 and up. Youth under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Winter Backpacking....it's not time to pack it in yet!
Just because it is a little cold or maybe there’s a bit of snow on the ground doesn’t mean backpacking season is over. Dress for the cold because we will be talking about the proper clothing and gear, how to stay dry, & how to dry your clothing and shoes. In the last backpacking class of 2014 we will talk about alternative backpacking methods for the snow so your camping season doesn’t have to stop.
Adults and youth 14 and up. Youth under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
