In the rustic tradition of the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), mountainous Desoto State Park is accented by many rushing waterfalls and fragrant wildflowers.

The park was developed by the CCC in the late 1930s and the atmosphere of the CCC enhances many areas, including a Lodge, restaurant, and Cabins. Nestled atop beautiful Lookout Mountain in scenic Northeast Alabama, this 3,502-acre park provides Mountain Chalets, Log & Rustic Cabins, Motel Rooms, Meeting Rooms, and has an Improved Campground with 94 full-hookup tent & RV sites. For the more adventurous, there is also a Primitive tent camping area as well as 2 backcountry campsites in the park.

Also features a picnic area with playground, seasonal Olympic-size swimming pool, nature center with interpretive programs and live animals, a small Civilian Conservation Corps museum, and over 25 miles of hiking & mountain biking trails including an ADA-accessible boardwalk trail.

DeSoto State Park is located eight miles northeast of Fort Payne, Alabama. DeSoto Falls, which is also part of DeSoto State Park, is located about 7 miles North towards Mentone, Alabama.

DESOTO TAKES A HIT,  BUT MUCH OF PARK IS UNDAMAGED & REMAINS OPEN
On March 18th, a small  tornado struck DeSoto State Park in Ft. Payne, AL, causing damage to the hotel, restaurant and several cabins. While these structures were damaged, much of DeSoto was untouched by the storms and the public is encouraged to continue to enjoy the park.
