  2009 Calendar of Events

DeSoto State Park along with Jacksonville University Field School and Little River Canyon National Preserve bring you a series of interpretive programs, hikes, and workshops intended to educate the public about all things nature.

Mountain Laurel Blooms

Seating is limited so bring your own comfortable chair if you wish!  Come and visit DeSoto's Nature Center complete with Live Animals!

Campfire Talks are a series of educational & entertaining programs located in the great outdoors. Campfire programs are held almost every Friday & Saturday evening (May –November) in DeSoto’s James L. Wynn Campfire Ring in the Improved Campground. All programs are open & free to the public. Seating is limited, so bring your own comfortable chair if you wish. In case of bad weather, programs are moved to the Nature Center (next to the Country Store).

Storytelling in the Canyon

  • Tellabration is a worldwide event devoted to storytelling. This grass-roots movement is endorsed by the National Storytelling Network. Join the Canyon Center's own Renee Morrison and other marvelous Alabama Storytelling Association members for this family-fun event!
    Fee: $5.00 per adult; children & students free
