9th Annual Creative Spirit Market

Adding a new twist to a typical art fair, this event is designed as an open air showcase, with artist demonstrations, locally & regionally created fine & folk art, premium hand-crafted goods, & live acoustic music. Shoppers can browse and watch artists in their creative process, listen to music, plus purchase goods from fine and folk artists such as painters, potters, quilters, weavers & basket makers, fabric spinners, culinary artists and craftsmen. Some unique and one-of-a-kind gifts will be available for purchase. Stop by and get some early gift-shopping in!

Times: 10:00 am-3:00 pm each day
The market is held near DeSoto State Park’s picnic area across from the Country Store on County Road 89. If the weather is chilly, market-goers can enjoy a blazing fire in the stone fireplace in the CCC pavilion. Bring your own camp chair to hang out a while and listen to the music. Dogs on a leash are allowed in the park.
There is limited parking in the picnic area, the tennis court area, and in front of the Country Store. If parking anywhere in the picnic area, a $2 per vehicle fee applies. There is no fee to attend the open-air market. Rain or shine event. Call 256.997.5025 or email for more details.

Absolutely! We are looking for artists, craftsmen, and other creative people that want to show off their creative spirit! Demonstrators are more than welcome, that want to show the process of how they make their art so that visitors have a better understanding of the time and effort that is put in to it . Do I need to bring cash?
YES! Many artists take cash or cards. DeSoto State Park will only take cash payment via honor boxes for parking.
What if it rains? Do we cancel the event?
Creative Spirit Market takes place rain or shine but we prefer shine!
Is this an indoor or outdoor Festival? What is the terrain like?
The Creative Spirit Market is a primarily outdoor event, located in the DeSoto State Park Picnic Area area. There is a mix of shade & sunny areas. The terrain around the picnic area is relatively flat, but there are roots & rocks/uneven surfaces in several areas. There is some handicapped- accessible areas, such as the CCC Pavilion and Country Store.
Is this a family-friendly event?
Absolutely! There is something for everyone, whether it be the shopping, live music, or visiting the food vendors. Very casual event, bring a hammock or a camp chair and relax in the park, bring a picnic, play some ball....
Will there be live music?
Yes! There will be different performance artists playing every hour, between the hours of 10:00 noon & 3:00-both Saturday & Sunday

Are pets allowed at the market?
Dogs are allowed in the park, on a leash at all times. Please pick up after your pet.
Are there accommodations nearby?
Yes! There are cabins, chalets, motel rooms, improved campsites for RVs/tents, and primitive camping area all located in DeSoto State Park. Nearby towns such as Fort Payne & Mentone have many lodging options. It is recommended that reservations be made as early as possible, as most lodging in the area fills up every weekend in the Fall.
